Job Overview:

The Environment Design Director’s primary responsibility is to manage a team whose objective is to design and layout every location and setting in each episode. This role will also oversee the creation of previs 3d elements that can be used during the storyboarding process. The Environment Design Director works closely with the Directors and Art Direction to maintain a continuity of vision and scope. The Environment Design Director reports directly to the Art Director.

    Required Skills:

    • 2-3 years of experience in environmental design.
    • 1-2 years of experience in a management position.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully to the environment design team, and various department leads throughout their processes.
    • Able to quickly change tasks and adapt to the ebbs and flows of production.
    • Must have a working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Blender, Sketch-up, Google Docs, and FTrack.
    • Must be able to design strong, aesthetically appealing locations in the required style.
    • Must have a thorough understanding of the Environment Design pipeline as well as how it impacts and effects other departments.
    • Must have strong research skills.
    • Must have a strong sense of color, color theory, and painting, in addition to a superior understanding of perspective.
    • Receives and relays direction with a collaborative approach, seeking clarity or presenting options when necessary, and forming concrete solutions for the team.
    • Must have excellent organizational skills and an ability to keep up with the status of the department at all times.
    • Must have excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
    • Must have excellent time management skills and be able to work autonomously.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Read through scripts, making a breakdown of locations, and their status for each episode.
    • Work with the Producer and Production Management to create a calendar of inter-departmental deliveries.
    • Researching subject matter and gathering photo references.
    • Work with the Director of the episode to understand the blocking and storytelling needs for each environment.
    • Work with Art Director to gather any references and direction for each environment.
    • Collaborate with the Director of the episode to deliver previs 3d materials to Storyboards.
    • Review research and direction with Team Leads and work toward creating the desired design element.
    • Review design elements with Team Leads for critique and multiple versioning.
    • Create iterations of the same design to explore possibilities and extremes.
    • Meet regularly with other department heads to ensure the finished designs satisfy all concerns, and teams are able to move forward.
    • Communicate needs (extra research, software) to Art Director.
    • Communicate respectfully with artists from other departments to quickly make corrections and additions as needed.
    • Learn and adapt to our proprietary pipeline and in-house tools and be flexible to changes that occur.
    • Approve staff hours prior to payroll.
    • Work with Team Leads to maintain consistent notes on staff performance and communicate with staff regarding performance on a regular basis.
    • Must reside in GA.
    • Must be able to provide authorization to work in the US.
    • Must be able to provide proof of COVID vaccination and boosters.
